What can you use for Mickey’s Ears other than Oreos on the Mickey Mouse Cupcakes?

There are several great things you can use for your mickey ears other than an oreo cookie. Try chocolate wafers or melting wafer discs. They are smooth, round, and super sturdy. Chocolate coins are great for a cleaner, more polished look. Or try dipped mini marshmallows, coat them in melted chocolate or other thin chocolate cookies.

Ingredient Notes for Easy Disney Cupcakes
These cupcakes are the best because they use simple ingredients. I use marshmallow fluff in place of heavy whipping cream because it creates a sturdier and delicious frosting.
This is an overview of key ingredients. Get the full printable recipe with specific measurements and directions in the recipe card below.

- Cake Mix: A quick shortcut that keeps the recipe simple and reliable. It has all the dry ingredients yo need to make the cupcakes. The wet ingredients are listed in the full recipe below to finish the cake batter.
- Chocolate Sandwich Cookies: These large oreo or mini oreo create the iconic Mickey mouse ears.
- Vanilla Buttercream Frosting: Frost the cupcakes to secure decorations and adds sweetness.
- Cupcake Liners: Red or themed liners help match the Disney look.
Variations and Substitutions – Make Minnie Mouse Cupcakes
You can use regular oreos for bigger ears for a fun twist for minnie and mickey. You can make a homemade cupcake or premade cupcakes from the store for these easy mickey cupcakes.
➡️Gel Food Coloring: You can use yellow and red food coloring.
➡️Make Minnie Mouse Cupcakes: Add a candy bow between the ears.

Then let them cool completely before frosting.

Prep Ahead and Short Cut Tips for Chocolate Cupcake Recipe and Frosting
You can do several of the steps ahead of time to make these fun and adorable cupcakes.
➡️ Bake Cupcakes Early: Bake the cupcakes one day ahead and store covered when cupcakes are done.

Alternate Cooking Methods for Mickey Mouse Cupcakes
If you like mickey mouse but want something a little smaller for kids, than these cupcakes are perfect.
- Mini Cupcakes: Make smaller cupcakes for large parties and adjust baking time and use mini oreos for the ears.
How Do You Keep the Decorations From Falling Off?
We use a thick icing for the base. Don’t just place the cookie on top. Push it in slightly so the frosting hugs the cookie. Hold it for 5–10 seconds to help it grip. Chill the decorated cupcakes in the fridge for 5–10 minutes. Avoid warm hands and warm rooms.

How to Store, Freeze and Use Leftover Easy Mickey Mouse Cupcakes
Bake cupcakes, they are done when a toothpick inserted in the center of the cupcakes comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.Decorated cupcakes store well with simple precautions.
- Store: Like all baked goods these cupcakes are best eaten fresh. But you can store cupcakes in an airtight container on the counter at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Freeze: Place the decorated cupcakes on a baking sheet and freeze uncovered for 1 hour to firm up the frosting. Once solid, wrap each cupcake gently in plastic wrap or place them in a deep airtight container. Freeze for up to 1 month for best texture.
- Using Leftovers: Leftover cupcakes make a fun snack or dessert for the next day. You can also mix them into ice cream, yogurt and oatmeal.
Expert Tips to Love These Cupcakes
These Mickey Mouse treats are perfect for a disney party. OR when you want to make something just a little extra special for your kids.
➡️ Cool Completely: Allow cupcakes to cool completely. Decorating warm cupcakes will cause frosting to melt.
➡️ Insert Ears Gently: Place cookie ears carefully to avoid cracking the cupcake.
➡️Use Thick Frosting: Firm frosting holds decorations in place better.
➡️Decorate Close to Serving: Cookie ears stay crisp when added shortly before serving at your disney-themed party.
