Making donuts doesn’t have to be a stressful and difficult process. You can actually make baked donuts are simple, straightforward and without frying them! My simple glazed cinnamon donuts recipe will blow you away!

I shouldn’t say that I hate making traditional donuts because I don’t do it very often but I just prefer the texture of a cake donut so this recipe is usually what I tend to make.

Cake donuts are more dense and flavorful, they’re sweet and indulgent and it’s like eating a little piece of cake that you can carry with you. Who doesn’t love that!

Looking for supplies to make cake mix recipes like these cinnamon donuts?
If you are trying to pick out some of the best supplies to stock your kitchen for cake mix recipes and baking in general, these are some of our favorites and must have items.

I like half sheet baking pans that are quality (hello no noisy pops or sloshed cookie dough from twisting), I line my cookie sheets with silicone baking mats. These are a must when doing cake mix recipes which can settle and become thin at lot easier than traditional cookie dough.
Of course mixing bowls, a mixer, spatula, and some whisks should be on your list if you don’t have ones that you love. I also like to have a set of cooling racks so that my recipes can properly cool before they’re scarfed down by my family!

For this particular recipe you will want a donut pan. It comes in handy for other portable breakfast essentials too like these egg sandwiches!
What else will I need to make glazed cinnamon cake donuts?
This recipe doesn’t use anything tricky or weird. As usual we will be starting with a boxed cake mix…this is for a reason…because it makes life so much easier! Once you try out some of these cake mix recipes you’ll never want to go back to baking completely from scratch.

We will also be using pumpkin puree, apple sauce, icing sugar, milk, sugar, and cinnamon. No, the pumpkin puree doesn’t make these cinnamon donuts taste overly like pumpkin!
How to make donuts from a cake mix:
There are only a handful of steps separating you and some delicious cake mix donuts. My cinnamon donuts are baked, blazed, and ready to go before you know it. The process is simple, so simple in fact that if you have little ones who like to work in the kitchen this is a great recipe to make with them!

Mix cake mix and pie filling, and apple sauce until combined.
Put the batter into a pipping bag and pipe into a donut baking tray.

Bake for 14-16 minutes at 400.
Let cool for 15 minutes before removing from tray.
Mix icing sugar and milk.

Dip donuts into the icing and place on a tray to drip.
Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the donuts.

These donuts store fairly well because they’re not fried! If you are looking to make them in advance you could wait to glaze them until you are ready to eat them.
