You have probably already noticed that this recipe for chocolate chip cookie bars produces perfectly square cookie bars…that’s not magic, it’s this pan. Using a square muffin pan makes these cookie bars super perfect and it also makes your life a lot easier.
There’s no need to measure out how to cut these because the pan does all of that for you. The cookie bars have a perfectly crispy edge and gooey soft centers that are to die for!
If you’ve ever had a pan like this you could probably also make that work since the batter for this recipe for chocolate chip cookie bars is pretty stiff when you are putting it into the pans.
Other Kitchen Essentials for Baking:
If you are trying to pick out some of the best supplies to stock your kitchen for cake mix recipes and baking in general, these are some of our favorites and must have items.
I like half sheet baking pans that are quality (hello no noisy pops or sloshed cookie dough from twisting), I line my cookie sheets with silicone baking mats. These are a must when doing cake mix recipes which can settle and become thin at lot easier than traditional cookie dough.
Of course mixing bowls, a mixer, spatula, and some whisks should be on your list if you don’t have ones that you love. I also like to have a set of cooling racks so that my recipes can properly cool before they’re scarfed down by my family!
What ingredients do I need to make chocolate chip cookie bars the easy way?
You will only need butter, eggs, a yellow cake mix, and some semi sweet chocolate chips. I like the allergy friendly mini chocolate chips.
I just noticed the other day that Toll House makes them now as well. Normally I’d grab the Enjoy Life brand ones but really any mini chocolate chips will work great for this recipe.
If you don’t have mini ones on hand you could just run the larger ones through the food processor for a quick spin to make the chunks a little smaller. The big chips just tend to be a little overwhelming in the small space of the square muffin pans!
Can I add something besides chocolate chips to these cookie bars?
You can add whatever you like to this mix and it will come out pretty great. If you have sprinkles on hand that you’d like to throw in the mix that would be good, you could also try white chocolate chips or yogurt chips for a little twist.
This recipe is really easy to play with to create something delicious that everyone will enjoy. Try adding some cinnamon and brown sugar for a churro style cookie bar! Chocolate jimmies or holiday themed sprinkles would also be festive and adorable in this tasty treat.
How to make lazy chocolate chip cookie bars:
These are my called “lazy” for nothing…they’re super easy to make. There’s just a few simple steps standing between you and some deliciously perfect cookie bars.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare pan or your choice with nonstick spray
Mix melted butter with eggs
Stir in cake mix
Add chocolate chips
Spoon into pan and bake 20-28 depending on pan size
Cool completely and cut into squares
Was I lying?! Super easy to make, right?! This recipe for chocolate chip cookie bars is one of my favorites because it always comes out so well. I always double the recipe…which is super simple to do thanks to the boxed cake mix.
Knowing how easy the recipe is to make I keep a lot of these ingredients on hand at all times. They store great in the pantry and then you can whip up a batch whenever you need a quick and simple treat.
