What the the world is a “dump cake” and why does it sound so gross?!
If you have never made a dump cake or heard of “dump cakes” you are probably a little confused…rightly so…it sounds awful.
Truthfully the name is just a lazy way of describing how the recipe is created. You will literally just dump the ingredients into the pan, there’s no mixing to combine the ingredients together first!

Since we’re all about taking boxed cake mixes to the next level around here this is some magical kitchen fun for the whole family. Anyone can succeed at layering the ingredients and then baking them, right?!
Dump cake recipes like this caramel apple version are stress free and the end result is super moist, tasty, and easy to serve in a hurry!

Ingredients needed for a caramel apple dump cake:
One of the best things about dump cakes is that you can keep a lot of the ingredients on hand in the pantry. When I feel like making a sweet treat or need a quick dessert to share I know I’ll be able to make one of these caramel apple dump cakes without much muss or fuss.
For this recipe you will need caramel nibs, yellow cake mix, butter, and apple pie filing. That is literally all you need to make an incredible dessert. The whole house will smell amazing while this is baking and by the time you get to dig in everyone will be thrilled.

This easy dump cake dessert is perfect for fall but truthfully we make it all year long. It has all those great gooey flavors of fall mixed together so it does make more of an appearance during the cooler months.
Serve this one up with some whipped cream, or ice cream and you’ve got yourself an amazing dessert with very little planning, prep, or work!

How to make caramel apple cake mess free!
We aren’t kidding about this being an easy recipe. It’s truly simple. All you have to do is gather the ingredients and then we will be layering them in the baking dish strategically.
Once the layers are ready the whole thing goes into the oven…that’s right, we weren’t kidding about there being no mixing either! Check out how simple it is to take something bland and boring like a boxed yellow cake mix and turn it into a delicious dessert that everyone will devour!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare a 13×9 pan with a light coating of nonstick spray

Evenly spread both cans of pie filling in the bottom of the pan

Sprinkle in caramel nibs

Evenly layer on cake mix

Pour melted butter over cake mix or place sliced butter evenly over the entire surface

Bake 40-50 minutes or until golden brown
Cool slightly, serve with ice cream if desired, and enjoy!

Kitchen Essentials for Dump Cakes:
If you are trying to pick out some of the best supplies to stock your kitchen for cake mix recipes and baking in general, these are some of our favorites and must have items.
I like half sheet baking pans that are quality (hello no noisy pops or sloshed cookie dough from twisting), I line my cookie sheets with silicone baking mats. These are a must when doing cake mix recipes which can settle and become thin at lot easier than traditional cookie dough.

Of course mixing bowls, a mixer, spatula, and some whisks should be on your list if you don’t have ones that you love. I also like to have a set of cooling racks so that my recipes can properly cool before they’re scarfed down by my family!
For dump cakes in particular you will need a rectangular cake pan. You can use glass pyrex style ones or even casserole baking dishes!
