What type of bacon works best to make bacon roses?
The recipe below states that you can use any type of bacon that you’d like, but I would recommend medium-cut bacon or even thick-cut bacon so that the bacon rose is sturdy once you make it.
You don’t want it to be too flimsy and not hold that beautiful rose shape!
What tools are needed to make bacon maple cupcakes?
If you’re going to add on the frosting through a frosting bag, I love these reusable icing bags because they make it so simple to use and clean them for multiple uses.
Can I make these cupcakes gluten-free?
Absolutely. If gluten free cupcakes are a necessity for you, no worries. Just choose a mix that suits your needs. I know that Pillsbury makes gluten free cake mixes but I also really like the Krusteeze brand ones too!
You can also make any other dietary adjustments that you need to…like dairy free swaps, etc. Cupcakes are pretty forgiving so you should be able to make simple adjustments without much fuss.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
To make the roses out of bacon, take and brush one side of every bacon slice with maple syrup, sprinkle on brown sugar, roll it up and place the bacon bloom side up in a muffin tin. Put in the oven and bake until the bacon is crispy. Drain off excess grease by sitting on a paper towel.
To make the cupcakes prepare the batter according to the box. It will vary slightly depending on the brand you choose, etc. Once mixed stir in the maple syrup. If you want more bacon taste you can even stir in a few cooked bacon crumbles.
Pour the batter into a lined muffin tin, about 3/4 full.
Put into the oven and bake for 22-25 minutes. Remove and let the cupcakes cool.
If your box recommends more time for the cupcakes make sure to follow the directions for your particular brand so that it works out!
To make the frosting, cream together the butter and 1/3 cup of the powdered sugar at a time. Add in the maple syrup.
Once the cupcakes are cooled, add the frosting and then put the bacon rose right on top.
