Instructions
Preheat the oven according to the cake mix package directions and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
Prepare and bake the cake mix according to the package directions, then cool completely on a wire rack.
Mix the vanilla frosting with yellow food coloring until you reach a deep yellow color.
Fit a piping bag with a Wilton #70 tip and fill it with the yellow frosting.
Dab a small amount of frosting in the center of each cupcake and press a mini Oreo on top.
Pipe petals from the Oreo outward, working in layers until the petals reach the edge of the cupcake.
Notes
Cool Completely First:
Warm cupcakes melt the frosting, so wait until they're fully cool before decorating.
Build the Color Gradually:
Add food coloring a little at a time so the frosting doesn't turn an artificial-looking yellow.
Glue the Cookie Down First:
Always set the Oreo center before piping petals, or the petals will have nothing to anchor to.
Store Loosely Covered:
Use a container deep enough that the lid doesn't flatten the piped petals.
