1 1/2 sticks, sliced into thin pats
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
Add pie filling and spread to cover the bottom of the dish.
Sprinkle entire box of cake mix on top of pie filling.
Place pats of butter on top of the cake mix, covering evenly and as much of the cake as possible.
Bake for 40 minutes. A toothpick or knife inserted in the center should come out mostly clean (there may be a little of the pie filling on it).
Notes
Add Nuts:
Walnuts, pecans or other nuts add a satisfying crunch and are great additions to this dump cake.
Variation tip:
Make your own apple pie filling with fresh apples and slice them and add to the cake mixture for this perfect cake.
Alternate ingredient:
Add a sprinkle of your favorite spices to a yellow cake mix, try adding additional spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
Dust:
Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar.
Dietary consideration tip:
Use a sugar free apple pie filling to lower the calories.
Alternate Cooking Method:
Slow Cooker or Instant Pot can be a great way to make this apple dessert.
