Instructions
Preparation Instructions:
Prepare slow cooker with nonstick spray.
Pour pie filling in bottom.
In a large bowl combine cake mix with melted butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle over pie filling in an even layer.
Cook on low 4 hours or on high 2 hours.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy!
Optional Homemade Pie Filling:
In a saucepan stir together mashed strawberries with 1 1/2 cups water.
Bring to a boil then simmer on low for about 3 minutes.
Strain to equal 2 cups of juice, add water if needed.
Discard pulp.
In the saucepan combine juice, cornstarch, sugar, lemon juice, and salt.
Bring to a boil, whisking constantly until the mixture becomes clear and thick.
Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Stir in sliced strawberries.
Notes
Add Nuts:
Pecans or walnuts can be good in this recipe.
More Berries:
Try adding fresh fruit, such as fresh berries like blueberries, raspberries or blackberries.
Drizzle:
Make a drizzle of powdered sugar, vanilla and milk, and drizzle over the top of the cake.
Alternate cooking method tip:
Bake the cake in the oven instead of the crock pot.
